cPanel & WebHost Manager (WHM)
 The majority of web interface control panels are cPanel & WebHost Manager.  According to their website's information, they are both extremely feature rich.

"WHM allows you to but is not limited to administering individual accounts, reseller accounts & performing basic system & control panel maintenance via a secure interface."

Ensim servers
 Ensim provides the industry's most comprehensive line of professional software for professional hosting service providers large to small. Available for both Linux and Windows platforms.

Today, over 12,000 providers rely on Ensim to build the hosting solutions they need to manage their business.

A recent problem on an Ensim server required me to login as root, identify, and repair a situation that was causing AutoResponse Plus to not send out follow up messages.

Here is a brief overview of what actions were needed:

  • Existing files after creating admin2, in /var/spool/cron
  • Three files previously owned by root were changed to their respective admin[X]
  • (where X is the site reference # specified by sitelookup)
  • Lookup Ensim admin[X] for domain1.com
  • Lookup Ensim admin[X] for domain2.com
  • Use tail to verify admin[X] contents
  • Swap admin11 and admin8 file contents using pico
  • Run arp3-auto.pl
  • Release System Locks and duplicate index
  • Run arp3-auto.pl
  • Release System Locks and duplicate index
  • Run arp3-auto.pl
  • All done

Plesk Servers
 Plesk Server Administrator (PSA) is software designed to ease the configuration and administration of servers, and greatly reduce the support workload for technical staff. PSA employs a simple control panel interface, allowing users to, point and click their way through managing a server.

This can be done without extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux programming. PSA also greatly reduces the amount of time it takes to administer servers, and with client access to the control panel minimizes the amount of support requests, as the clients now have the ability to administer their own sites.

Problem:
 Client couldn't get e-mail subscription working. Time-sensitive broadcast were stalling.

Analysis:
 AutoResponse Plus database was overloaded and MySQL was being unnecessarily "starved."

Solution:

  • We logged-in as root...

  • Split the database, removing non ARP code...

  • Setup e-mail subscription...

  • Reconfigured the MySQL server...

  • Updated the MySQL structure...

  • Repaired all ARP, and non-ARP, tables.

Results:
 Happy Camper!

On occasion, hosts "tweak" things making their life simple and ours a serious task.

Our customer sent a response e-mail that said, Great! I just got online, & everything looks fine--I now have my "multiple choice form" option, which makes me very happy! Thanks a ton!
